Welcome, Mack
The Alumni Association welcomes Mack Haley '66, to the Alumni Office. Mack, who has worked for the College of Engineering for the past couple of years, will work with our many programs part time and continue to work part time for the engineering college coordinating their alumni and development activities. For the Alumni Office Mack will bring his experience and expertise to help with the honors programs and chapter events in addition to coordinating a number of other alumni activities.

Pre-game Activities
A number of pre-game functions have been held around the country at away football and basketball games.

Denton, Texas
Nov. 18 we had a very cold tailgate party. Old Man Winter must have read my previous Aggie Panorama column in which I mentioned the heat in the South so we were given the opportunity to try cold, windy, wet weather.

Ernest, '87, and Lisa, '94, Wagley helped get everyone together for some Texas barbecue. The hot cobbler helped warm us before kickoff. We cheered and cheered, but I'm afraid the wind blew our noise away from the Aggies, as North Texas was victorious.

San Diego, Calif.
San Diego area alumni got together Nov. 21 for a pre-game reception before the San Diego State basketball game (much warmer). Dave Humphry, '87, and Sal Magallanez, '84, were instrumental in getting the reception organized. They are working on future events in the San Diego area.

Lubbock, Texas
Jan. 2 we sponsored an alumni reception before the Aggie/Red Raider basketball game. A brave group ventured out in the snow and ice to meet fellow alumni in Lubbock. Executive council member Ermelinda Quintela, '86, '88, '94, was in Lubbock for business and helped organize the event.

Outstanding Graduates
In November we honored the outstanding graduates from the Dona Ana Branch Community College at a luncheon in Corbett Center. Four members of the Alumni Executive Council and several DABCC administrators attended.

In December we took a break from football and basketball events to sponsor a pre-Commencement buffet luncheon for graduating seniors and their families. Other attendees were NMSU regents, NMSU President and Mrs. Jay Gogue, honorary doctorate recipient Robert W. Davis, '49, and his family, and the Alumni Executive Council.

New Chapter
The Dona Ana County Aggie Alumni Chapter was chartered in December at an alumni appreciation reception. It was the first group to be chartered under our new chapter format. Archie Beckett, '51, is president and Denny Calhoun, '62, is program chair. These two have lots of great ideas. Many more events are being planned for Dona Ana Aggies.

Seattle, Wash., Commencement
In December we took Commencement on the road - for the first graduates of a master's degree program in engineering and business that was introduced in 1997 for full-time employees of the Boeing Co. in Seattle, Wash. The first graduates are: master of science in industrial engineering - Michelle Allen, Christopher Allison, Terry Dougherty, David Kapioski and Douglas Pang. Master of science in mechanical engineering - Craig Eyermann, Matthew Gianni and Joseph Sicat, who attended Commencement in Las Cruces. Our thanks to the Boeing Co. for sponsoring this event.

Peggy Moore, '81, and Wencil McClenahan, '92, were instrumental in making this special Commencement possible. Other NMSU attendees included NMSU President Jay Gogue; Bahram Nassersharif, department head of mechanical engineering; Edward Hensel, professor of mechanical engineering; Edward Pines, department head of industrial engineering; Linda Riley, assistant professor of industrial engineering; and myself. NMSU alumni working for Boeing were invited to the ceremony.

All State Music Conference
Our third annual alumni reception was held in Albuquerque Jan. 12 in conjunction with the All State Music Conference. Alumni were treated to musical performances by NMSU students. Everyone raved about how talented these students are. Greg Fant, '90, music department head, helped organize a successful reception.

Ermelinda Quintela, '86, '88, '94, of the Alumni Executive Council made the trip. Jerry Alt, Reed Dasenbrock, Ken Van Winkle and Christine Sanders, to name a few, were in Albuquerque for the conference and joined us for the reception.

Carnegie Hall Debut
For our Aggies in the New York area who need a New Mexico fix, here is a great opportunity. The Las Cruces High School Choir will perform at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, April 15, at 8 p.m. These musicians will be featured during the Carnegie Hall Debut Series. For more information call Diane Schutz, '88, at (505) 527-9408.

Homecoming 2001
Homecoming 2001 is set for Oct. 11-13. Classes celebrating reunions this year are the class of 1951, their 50th, and the class of 1961, their 40th.

Committees will begin meeting in March. Anyone interested in helping please let me know.

Nominations
Nominations will be accepted through May 1 for the Distinguished Alumni Award and the James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service, which are given for support and involvement in NMSU and for professional and civic service. The awards will be presented during Homecoming 2001.
