Bill Feather 1928-2002

Bill Feather ’51, former capitol correspondent for the Associated Press in New Mexico, died Aug. 18, 2002, in his Santa Fe home, at age 74.

Feather graduated from Artesia High School and joined the Navy in 1945. While attending New Mexico State University he worked at the Las Cruces Citizen and went on to cover New Mexico politics for 30 years, reporting on nine governors. He also was a former editor of The Santa Fe New Mexican.

Feather is survived by his wife Pat, his three sons Joseph, Rob and Frank, four granddaughters, a brother and a sister.

Theresa Miller 1958-2002

Theresa Miller ’81, who was cited for her heroism during the 1999 Columbine High School shooting, died Dec. 2, 2002, after a three-year battle with cancer.

Miller, who was born in Roswell, N.M., was Columbine’s “Teacher of the Year” in 2001 and its science department head for two years.

During the April 20 shooting, Miller ran through the halls warning people, extinguished a fire started by a pipe bomb, led dozens of students to safety and stayed with another teacher as he died from his wounds.

President Clinton noted her heroism in an address to the nation about the shooting the next day.

A few months later, Miller was diagnosed with colon cancer, which eventually moved to her lungs.
