Bill Feather
1928-2002
Bill Feather 51, former capitol correspondent for the Associated
Press in New Mexico, died Aug. 18, 2002, in his Santa Fe home, at age
74.
Feather graduated from Artesia High School and joined the Navy in 1945.
While attending New Mexico State University he worked at the Las Cruces
Citizen and went on to cover New Mexico politics for 30 years, reporting
on nine governors. He also was a former editor of The Santa Fe New Mexican.
Feather is survived by his wife Pat, his three sons Joseph, Rob and
Frank, four granddaughters, a brother and a sister.
Theresa Miller
1958-2002
Theresa Miller 81, who was cited for her heroism during the 1999
Columbine High School shooting, died Dec. 2, 2002, after a three-year
battle with cancer.
Miller, who was born in Roswell, N.M., was Columbines Teacher
of the Year in 2001 and its science department head for two years.
During the April 20 shooting, Miller ran through the halls warning
people, extinguished a fire started by a pipe bomb, led dozens of students
to safety and stayed with another teacher as he died from his wounds.
President Clinton noted her heroism in an address to the nation about
the shooting the next day.
A few months later, Miller was diagnosed with colon cancer, which eventually
moved to her lungs.
