High school juniors and seniors preparing for college took in as much information as they could during New Mexico State University’s 2006 Spring Visitors’ Day event in February.
“Spring Visitors’ Day is about providing students and families the information they need to make good decisions,” says Matt Hulett, associate director of admissions.
“Whether students are trying to decide between two colleges or just starting to think about going to college, this is a great way to learn what NMSU can do for them.”
More than 1,500 people – students and family members from New Mexico, Texas, Arizona and elsewhere – explored the campus.
Bright and early, students met with representatives from the different colleges and departments, and from the Doña Ana Community College.
They attended financial aid presentations and participated in walking tours of the campus and housing facilities.
A big supporter of the event was the NMSU cheer team. Twenty-six members of the squad helped throughout the day by manning the registration booth, answering questions from parents and students, and guiding tours.
Cheer team member Ben Sadler, a junior double majoring in education and Spanish, says Spring Visitors’ Day was very well received by the guests he talked with.
“They felt that it was a good thing and that they were in a better position to make decisions,” he says.
Sadler noted that the number one issue concerning students was making time for fun.
“I would tell them, ‘If you budget your time right and you do things you are interested in, you’ll be fine in school,” Sadler says.
Scheduled every year on Presidents’ Day, Spring Visitors’ Day is a chance for students and parents to learn about NMSU’s degree programs, student life, financial aid and more.
