How did New Mexico State University’s priorities fare with the 2006 legislative
session? Among the university’s priorities were increased compensation for employees and building renewal and replacement. Here’s a look at how those were funded by the state:
- Increased compensation at 4.5 percent
- Building renewal and replacement (statewide) $20 million
- Special project expansion $1.5 million
The state also approved $22.9 million in General Obligation bonds for NMSU capital priorities. They are:
| Gardiner Hall renovation and expansion |
$11 million |
| Health and Social Services building |
$2 million |
| Native American Cultural Center |
$3 million |
| Doña Ana East Mesa |
$3.5 million |
| Grants library center |
$400,000 |
| Carlsbad renovation and deferred maintainance |
$1.5 million |
| Alamogordo Reidlinger Math and Science Bldg addition |
$1.5 million |
Because the above are GO bonds, they will be put before the public in November for a vote. Hopefully the voters will see the necessity of these projects and approve them as well.
Other key items funded during the 2006 Legislative session include:
| Creative Media Institute |
$500,000 |
| Pan Am Center renovation |
$500,000 |
| Aerospace Degree Program |

| Equestrian program |
