Kentucky
On Aug. 23, the Aggies kicked off the 2001 college football season
at the John Thompson Classic. We had a pre-game dinner with 10
Aggies from all around Louisville.
Austin
When the Aggies went to Austin to play the Longhorns Sept. 1,
Aggie alumni came out in force. At our tailgate we had over 220
Aggies. Brian Theodorsen, 96, led us in the Aggie fight
song.
A special presentation was made to Clarabelle Echols, 41,
who is our best Aggie fan in the South Texas area. Clarabelle
sits in the middle of the Longhorns (her family included) and
cheers for the New Mexico Aggies when we play down there. Her
award included Aggie items to wave and use for cheering us on.
Our thanks to Executive Council members Ermelinda Quintela, 86,
88, 94; Fred Mobley, 87, 91; Shari Jones,
80,82; and Jaime Castillo, 92, 93. Our
chapter president, Jamaal Fraser, 00, did a great job.

Aggie Round Up
For the Aggie Round Up Sept. 22 Denny Calhoun, 62, and Geraldine
Calhoun opened up their arena for all the fun, which included a barbecue
and dance.
The winners were: team roping Dan Garley, 83, champion
team leader, and New Mexico State student John Pete Etcheverry; horseshoes
Skip Pritchard, 59, and Ty Achen; washers Archie
Beckett, 51, and Don Campbell, 63; arena golf, mens
Joe Parker, 50, and womens Sible Tharp.
Our thanks to the many helpers and Archie, Don and Joe.
Kansas-Nebraska
On Sept. 22 approximately 40 Aggie alumni and friends, some from as
far away as Fargo, N.D., gathered on the K-State campus for a pre-game
tailgate. The Alumni Associations Kansas-Nebraska Chapter was
formally chartered. The chapter president is Kimberly Whittet, 00.
Tulsa Tailgate
On Oct. 6 about 30 high-spirited Aggie alums and guests gathered for
a pre-game tailgate on the university of Tulsa campus. We chartered
the Tulsa Chapter of the Aggie Alumni Association with Milton Kauhi,
85, assuming the reins as president. A special thanks goes to
Jeff McAdoo, 01, for assuming the cheerleader role
for the Aggie crowd.
Graduation Fair
The fair was planned as a one-stop shop for graduates Oct. 24 and 25.
Graduating seniors had the opportunity to sign up for Commencement,
shop for rings and diploma frames, check out graduate school and visit
with placement and career services representatives. Last spring we first
tried this concept. This year we added a new feature, a barbecue for
December graduates on Oct. 26.
Roswell
The Roswell Chapter planned to host a Halloween party Oct. 27. Regent
Jim Manatt, 71, agreed to let his home be haunted for one evening.
Hispanic Alumni Club
The Alumni Association is working with Laura Gutierrez Spencer, 85,
to form the Hispanic Alumni Club, a constituent society of the Alumni
Association. To be a member, an alumnus or alumna must be a member of
the association.
The inaugural event took place Oct. 9 with a breakfast at Corbett Center.
Rescheduled Events
Details on the 3Bs Beans, Burritos, and Beer
and the UNM Tailgate will have to wait. We postponed both events. The
3Bs was rescheduled for Oct. 20 and the UNM game was rescheduled
for Nov. 24.
Upcoming Events
Dona Ana Chapter to host Alumni Appreciation Dec. 1. Prior to
the Aggie-Miner game Dec. 28, Dona Ana Chapter will sponsor womens
basketball at home against the University of Denver.
Albuquerque Bernalillo Chapter to host All State Music Reception
Jan. 11, 2002, in Albuquerque.
Dallas-Ft. Worth Chapter to sponsor pre-game activities when
the Aggie Womens Basketball Team plays UNW of North Texas in Denton
Jan. 26, 2002.
Aggie Millionaires
With the popularity of the television show Who Wants to be a Millionaire?,
it should not come as a surprise that so many Aggies are becoming members
of the Aggie Millionaires Club. By Oct. 1 we had over 150 members.
Rodeo Reunion
New Mexico Department of Agriculture Secretary Frank A. DuBois and Giles
Lee, a member of the 1942 New Mexico State rodeo team, will sponsor
a rodeo reunion in Las Cruces on March 30, 2002.
The reunion will bring together rodeo athletes dating back to 1942
and those who support college rodeo. The reunion is scheduled around
the NIRA Rodeo, which will be held on March 29-30. Special presentations,
a dinner and a dance are planned. For more information, contact DuBois
at (505) 646-5063, rodeo@nmsu.edu
or http://www.nmsu.edu/~duboisrodeo/.
