New Positions Boost Aggie Athletics
Brian Faison
Athletics director Brian Faison recently assumed the new position of assistant vice president for athletic development.

“The new assignment for Brian is part of our overall plan to strengthen the Athletics Department as we prepare to join the Western Athletic Conference,” says President Mike Martin. “Brian will play a critical role as fund raiser and in moving legislative priorities forward.”

Faison was named athletics director in July 1999 after serving as associate athletics director for development. He will continue to serve as athletics director until a replacement is named.

Charles “Charley” Johnson ’61, who was featured in the summer 2004 issue of Panorama, has assumed the new position of assistant to the president for athletic progress.

In his new position, Johnson will be responsible for finding ways in which the NMSU President’s Office can have a maximum impact on student athletes and coaches. He also will be responsible for helping the Alumni Office organize alumni support for athletics.

“NMSU athletics is moving up,” Martin says. “I want to make sure the central administration is as helpful as possible. Charley is too valuable a resource not to use.”
