Gatherings
From July through October, alumni chapters held more than 50 events across the country. These included tailgate parties, chile roasts (a favorite), lunches, dinners and even golf outings. Here are just a few of them:

Chile Daze and Hot Nights

The inaugural Chile Daze and Hot Nights weekend in Las Cruces was great. Several past presidents of the Alumni Association joined us for a meeting. It rained Friday evening, but the events Saturday were blessed with clouds and cooler temperatures. Sunny Conley ’94 and Kelley Coffeen ’94 had wonderful chile recipes for everyone to taste. Jo Lytle ’83 delivered Hatch green chile and participants roasted all afternoon.

Chile roast in the Moreno Valley

Marshall ’62 ’64 and Francis Scott opened up their home in Moreno Valley, California, for another Aggie chile roast Aug. 21. Marshall made improvements on the roaster over last year and they did make a difference, but he is ready to tinker again to make it even better for next year. Everyone had the chance to roast their own chile and enjoy a catered lunch featuring the best Mexican food in Moreno Valley.

Chile roast in Hobbs, New Mexico

Guy Kesner ’88 and Dan Socolofsky ’74 put on a chile roast Sept. 2. Hatch chile was roasted in Hobbs and delivered to the country club. It was an Aggie-filled day. Coach Lou Henson spoke to the Hobbs Rotary Club at noon, then many of the same folks got together for hamburgers and fresh green chile.

Bay Area Aggies host chile roast, pre-game party

On Saturday, Sept. 18, several Bay Area alumni joined UNM alumni for a chile roast. UNM has been doing this for a number of years and this year thought it would be fun to include fellow New Mexicans.

Aggie alumni headed by Jack Burleson ’44 and Mike Rogers ’73 organized a pre-game party at Compadres in Oakland before the Cal Berkeley/Aggie game on Sept. 11. A great time was had by all. The food was wonderful – pretty close to good ol’ New Mexico food!

Oklahoma Aggies drive in for the Arkansas game

While NMSU has very few alumni living in Arkansas, a few drove from Tulsa, Oklahoma, to attend a pre-game party and the NMSU/Arkansas game. Brian Landry, director of the Aggie Scholarship Association, hosted the event.
