Thomas
Annual giving from alumni and friends is vital to New Mexico State University. These gifts support scholarships and programs across campus and strengthen the Foundation's endowment. Former President Gerald Thomas recognized this and during his tenure, he created organizations such as the President's Associates to generate private sector gifts of $1,000 or more.

Previously all donors making annual gifts of $1,000 were designated as members of the President's Associates. However, since that organization raises funds for the President's Associates scholarship program, it was felt that it would be less confusing if only those making gifts to that scholarship are identified as members of the President's Associates.

In 2004 the NMSU Foundation instituted an additional recognition level for annual gifts of $1,000 or more to all other campus programs and honored Thomas' leadership by naming it the Gerald Thomas Society. More than 700 individuals, corporations and foundations became charter members of the Gerald Thomas Society and were recognized in the most recent Honor Roll of Donors.
