Mike Martin, NMSU President |
In the classroom, on the athletic field, in our research labs or at work in our community, New Mexico State University is moving forward. There are many exciting opportunities ahead in 2006 for the Aggie family.
Our students are learning from top notch faculty in the classroom who are willing to challenge themselves and their students with new technologies. Many faculty are really reaching into the community and instilling the importance of service in our students. The Philosophy Department has worked hard to develop an interdisciplinary ethics minor aimed at making students think about their world.
Many of the opportunities we offer to our students are the result of private donations. Thanks to our benefactors, NMSU is a better place for our students to live, learn and thrive. The October 2005 Homecoming celebration brought many alumni and friends to campus and several helped us launch the public phase of our largest comprehensive campaign to date. Our goal is to raise $150 million by 2010. We are all grateful to the alumni who have stepped forward to lead this campaign and hope that all alumni will consider making a gift - of any amount. We want to fund endowments to recruit and retain top faculty, and scholarships for students who may not have any other source of support. We hope to build a new Native American Cultural Center and a Center for the Arts and renovate the College of Education's O'Donnell Hall.
Renovations are under way at the Pan American Center and when they are completed in fall 2006 the university will have a state-of-the-art facility. Everyone here is thrilled about the opportunity to showcase this facility when NMSU hosts the Western Athletic Conference men's and women's basketball tournaments in 2007 and 2008. The university is working with the community and the state to do everything possible to ensure that these tournaments are a genuine success. The NMSU Athletics Department is pursuing many new ventures to put the Aggies on the national scene. Make sure to mark your calendars for the remaining men's and women's basketball games this season (for game schedules, click here).
We hope this issue of Panorama provides you with a feel for what life is like at NMSU today.

| A Note from the Editor |
By Julie M. Hughes '95, Panorama Editor |
It is an exciting time to be part of the New Mexico State University Aggie family. The university is launching many efforts to move it forward including the largest comprehensive campaign in the school's history (click here).
NMSU also is using new teaching technologies (click here) and different teaching strategies (click here) to really engage its students. The university is tackling challenging societal problems and establishing programs, such as the Philosophy Department's new interdisciplinary ethics minor, to give students the tools they need to make a difference after graduation (click here). PGM graduates are excelling in a challenging field and working at golf courses across the globe (click here).
On a personal note, I am excited about the opportunity to serve as the editor of my alma mater's alumni magazine. I look forward to providing engaging and thought provoking content for you.
Enjoy reading about your university and fellow alumni and I encourage your feedback at panorama@nmsu.edu.
Look for the next issue of Panorama in June 2006.
