Martin legacy lives on

Rancher and cattleman W. F. (Dub) Martin and his wife Wanda supported scholarships for students at New Mexico State University and other colleges during their lifetime. Martin ensured that this legacy would continue by placing the family assets in the Willie I., Wanda and W. F. Martin charitable trust.

At the time of his death in 1989, Martin was president of the New Mexico Cattlegrowers Association. He served on a variety of local and regional boards, including the NMSU Foundation Board.

The charitable trust is now fully vested. NMSU was one of the institutions selected by the administrator of the trust, Dan Thompson, to receive funds to support scholarships that supplement the New Mexico Lottery Scholarships. These funds, totaling $200,000 for 2006-07, will be awarded to students beginning and completing their education.

“The Martin family believed in education and hard work to achieve a better life,” Thompson says. “We think investing in these students is a way to carry out their wishes and philosophy.”
