NMSU librarian helped change the rules for cataloging rare materials

Laurence Creider of the Technical Services Department of the New Mexico State University Library was one of 25 invited participants in the Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials Conference held in March in New Haven, Conn.

Creider participated in discussions about expanding the rules to cover books produced by machine press, transcription of early letter forms and punctuation, and when to create a new cataloging record. Creider also moderated a working group on proposed additions and changes to the rules and was a member of a group that formulated a statement of principles for rare materials cataloging.
