Children’s theater workshop at NMSU will study Greek myths and American legends

Children from first to eighth grade will be able to learn about ancient Greek myths and unique American legends during the New Mexico State University Department of Theatre Arts’ Theatre for Young Audiences series beginning Sept. 13.

The year-long program, directed by the NMSU theater department head Ruth Cantrell, is part of the 20th annual Children’s Theater Workshop and will end in May with performances written by the children.

“Greek Myths and Heroes” is available for children in first to third grade and will include drama and arts activities focused on traditions and heros in ancient Greece. The classes will be held on Mondays from 3:30-5 p.m.

“Americana” focuses on comic stories and tales unique to the American culture. Besides dramatizing stories from authors like Washington Irving, Mark Twain and Louisa May Alcott, fourth to eighth grade students will create their own comic sketches. The classes will be held on Wednesdays from 4-5:30 p.m.

The cost of the workshops is $270 payable in monthly payments of $30.
