Educators receive professional development at NMSU

Thirty public school educators from around New Mexico visited New Mexico State University June 2-4 to take part in “Professional Development 2006,” a series of workshops designed to teach the effective incorporation of technology into the classroom.

The workshops were sponsored by the Regional Educational Technology Assistance (RETA) program, a state-funded program administered by Carmen Gonzales, vice provost for distance education and dean of extended learning.

“Since all aspects of education are increasingly digital, there is an ongoing need for technology-related professional development for New Mexico’s educators,” said Susan Bussmann, RETA project coordinator. “However, there aren’t a lot of service providers to do it.”

This year’s participants took part in sessions on Data Driven Decision Making, Inspiration 8.0, Near Time Wikis, and Global Awareness and 21st Century Skills.

Professional Development participants, who are RETA instructors, will conduct workshops for K-12 educators to teach the RETA curriculum for incorporating technology throughout the state during the upcoming school year.
