Black History month is not about celebrating people or events in one time period or one area of the world, but about recognizing black history in a total sense, says Troy Franklin, director of Black Programs at New Mexico State University.

:14.8 sec Soundbite “The whole thrust of this whole month is to be able to intellectually, culturally, socially to look at the depth and breadth of our race and what we bring to the table and what we bring to the world, you know, our contributions to the world.”

Franklin says it is important to keep giving respect to black history throughout the year, whether through classroom instruction or through student and community organizations.
