New ACAP chair wants to hear from you

As the new chair of the Advisory Council on Administrative Policy (ACAP), Kelly Brooks wants to make ACAP a place where employees go to find the latest information, voice their opinions or make suggestions about administrative policies.

"ACAP is here to serve as the voice of the employees," Brooks said. "I want employees to know that ACAP is a resource for them. As chair, I will develop strategies to make it easier for ACAP to reach employees and to solicit their input about administrative policies that ultimately affect them."

Brooks plans to reach out to the campus community to raise awareness about ACAP and to enhance communication with employees about policy changes and other initiatives. Brooks has outlined several goals she hopes to accomplish as ACAP chair:

  • Ensure Web site is up to date and provides information on matters reviewed by ACAP.
  • Improve awareness among all employees and inform them of who their representatives are.
  • Improve the dissemination and solicitation of information from ACAP and employee groups.

The purposeof ACAP is to investigate matters involving the policies and procedures of the administration of the university, make recommendations based on such investigations to the university president and establish and maintain an organization of the university staff to provide communication between the staff and administration. ACAP has 20 elected members and 12 alternate members thatmeet on the second Thursday of every month.

Brooks said all NMSU employees are welcomed and encouraged to attend meetings or visit the ACAP Web site at http://www.nmsu.edu/%7Eacap/index.htmlto learn more about the organization.

Brooks took over as chair on Feb. 1 and will serve a one-year term; she replaces Tim Nesbitt. Besides her responsibility as ACAP chair, she is the director of Business at DACC.
