NMSU's Aggie Access Card takes Best Design Award

The New Mexico State University ID Card Office won the 2009 Best Card Design Award from the National Association of Campus Card Users (NACCU) at their 16th Annual Conference.

NMSU's Aggie Access Card, which features a landscape of the Organ Mountains in the background, was put in use in fall 2007 and is now used by all faculty, staff and students across campus.

Sixteen universities across the U.S. submitted their campus cards to be judged amongst their peer institutions at the NACCU conference March 8-11.

When NMSU started the Banner system in 2007, faculty, staff and students needed to be issued new cards because their social security number had to be replaced by their new Banner number on the cards. It was decided at the time to re-design the card's look as well.

The design was narrowed down to three, and a survey was conducted among the faculty, staff and students to select which design best represented the NMSU campus. The Organ Mountain design was selected for the new Aggie Access Card.

"Everybody from this university instantly knows what that image is," said Kate Fahrbach, director of Corbett Center Student Union. "This is the card that was most voted for, so it successfully represents NMSU."

The Aggie Access Card is used as a meal ticket for meal plan participants, library card, pay-for-print card, a key to on-campus housing and much more. The card also is used for identification in gaining access to games, the Activity Center and the Student Health Center.

The NACCU was formed in 1993 to provide a responsive, diversified source of campus card related information and services. The association is a nonprofit educational association that works to provide learning and networking opportunities for campus ID card and card industry professionals.
