New signs show visitors and first time students the way

"This will help the campus maintain a comprehensive identity," said Greg Walke, assistant university architect. "Once you are on campus, you will know instantly where you are. Visitors and first time students will find their way around much easier and will not have to stop and ask someone."

Walke said the effort is more than just directional arrows. New signs have been installed in front of buildings that tell which departments and programs are inside rather than just the building name. A "You Are Here" map of the campus was installed as well as new handicap parking signs.

The next area intended to receive more signs is around Branson Library. Walke said the new signs follow the university's new sign standards so that they will have similarity throughout the campus.

"They will maintain the beauty of the campus, but help make it a more sensible place," said Walke.

"The new directional signs are definitely good for incoming freshmen," said Alex Hallwyler, a graduate student in the English program. "Though for the seasoned Aggie they won't make too much difference."

"I think they're pretty," said Ryan Rockstraw, a junior and beginning Creative Media Institute student.
