In our continuing series of articles exploring our Seven Steps to Success, this article will focus on our initiative to move the university toward greater efficiency and effectiveness. But first, I would like to address some unfinished business. Last spring, when I first addressed our faculty, I noted that we had several projects started before my time that remained unfinished. One was to address the concerns of our faculty researchers about our inefficient research processes. Keeping a university system as large and varied as New Mexico State University's is a major task, akin to maintaining a small city. NMSU's Office of Facilities Operations and Utilities, the department responsible for construction, is currently managing more than 80 building projects, in some phase of design or construction, on university sites around the state. NMSU Year in Review
The 2009-2010 academic year was a landmark year in many ways for New Mexico State University. From Barbara Couture being named the first full-time, female president of the university, to continued record enrollment, to big success in the classroom and the athletic field, Aggies had much to be proud of.

New Mexico Highlands University will recognize Herman Garcia, director of elementary education in New Mexico State University's College of Education, as its 2010 Distinguished Alumnus during the school's homecoming celebration in October. Garcia is nationally recognized for his significant contributions to bilingual education. He earned a doctorate in education, with an emphasis in bilingual education, from NMSU, and completed postdoctoral studies at Harvard University. read more...
