New Mexico State University URC Minutes - November 1, 2002

Present: Jim Strickland, Marc Pruyn, Dave Rocks, William Quintana, Chuck Kozel, Rudi Schoenmackers,
Eve Adams, Ida Baca, Rasler Smith, Mary Wolf, Cathy Ortega-Klett (Karl Wood), Ed Scribner

Absent: Stephen Horan, Linda Lacey, Nirmala Khandan, Rhonda Skaggs, Elizabeth Titus, Kurt Anderson,
Ken Hacker, William Ogden, William Gould, Becky Keele-Smith, Daniel Dwyer

In the absence of Chair Steve Horan, Dr. Jim Strickland opened the meeting.

1. Approval of Minutes - October 4, 2002

A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes as presented. All were in favor.

2. Update Roster of Names and Contact Information

Dr. Strickland asked those present to review the URC membership list and update as necessary. Everyone present introduced themselves.

3. Presentation by Dr. Dwyer

Dr. Dwyer was delayed in travel from New Orleans. He will be asked to speak to the group at a future meeting.

4. Committee Work Session

Dr. Strickland reviewed the active URC committees and their members: 1) Awards Selection Committee will review both the Fort Bliss Award nominations and the URC Research and Creative Activities Award
nominations; 2) Research and Creative Activities Fair Committee; and 3) the Forums Committee.

5. Updates

a. Other – Dave Rocks announced that NMSU is a part of Internet2, a high performance research
network. Recently, through EPSCoR, NMSU received a grant that allows all state institutions
connected to Checknet (the higher institution network) to utilize Internet2 and connect to
researching colleagues and facilities across that internet. It isn’t noticeable in everyday internet use,
but more colleagues around the state will be able to participate in some of the research activities.

b. CORC – The next CORC meeting is November 4, 2002. A report will be given at the December
URC meeting.

 

 

6. Other Business and Concerns, Announcements – none

7. The Forums Committee members were asked to remain for a short meeting.
