1. Approval of Minutes

Minutes were approved by acclamation.

2. Presentation by Neta Fernandez

a. PI Certification
Based on UNM’s current program but customized for NMSU; distributed UNM’s materials for reference
make it part of NMSU’s faculty and staff training for those working with sponsored projects
Presently there is a faculty/staff/administrator committee to prepare the baseline materials for training;
targeting 1 March 2003 for the PI guide to be finished; training will follow
Use URC as the test arena for the initial training of faculty
b. Electronic Research Administration
Software procurement for InfoEd currently in procurement
The proposal tracking database is the first module, proposal preparation is second module
NMSU will receive 15 days of on-site training
OVPR would like to see each college have at least one person to be a resident “expert”
Software will permit tracking of current approval status.

3. Presentation by Richard Hills

a. Information Science update
Reviewed NMSU strategic directions development process and the Information Science strategic planning retreat process
Information Science will be trying to develop specific focus areas during 2003 based on white papers submitted by faculty/staff; focus areas need to be interdisciplinary in content and participation
b. Centers/Virtual Departments
Information Science group is currently working on a model policy that can be used to formulate NMSU Centers/Institutes across campus regardless of the strategic area

4. Regulatory Impacts

Discussed new federal regulations dealing with security regulations (ITAR and restricted entities lists)
Faculty need to be aware of regulations, especially those that are inserted by government agencies at grant award time

5. Faculty Senate

Faculty Senate is considering an IDC policy; URC requests a copy to see how it compares with committee work last year.
 
 

6. Next Meeting

Elizabeth Titus will make a presentation on E-prints.
