URC Minutes - April 26, 1996

Present: Kurt Anderson, Jeff Brandon, Greg Butler, Mike Coombs, Tom Dormody, Ancelmo “Sam” Encinias, Steve Helmreich, Jeanette Holmes (alternate for Nellie Quezada-Aragon), Michael Hyman, Donald Lindsey, Margaret Malamud, David Myers, Marilyn Pase, Tim Pettibone, Carol Quintana (alternate for Carol Walker), Roy Rodriguez, Tracy Sterling, Averett Tombes, and Mike Wolf

1. Approval of Minutes

Minutes of the March 29, 1996 meeting were approved.

2. Overview of University Research Efforts

Roy C. Rodriguez, Associate Dean of the College of Education provided a brief overview of the growth, research efforts, and services provided by the College.

3. Subcommittee Reports

Sounding Board for Financial Policies

No report at this time.

Principle Investigators Manual
No report at this time.

Unproductive and Duplicate Efforts Among University Departments in Seeking Research Funding.
The Report will be circulated to the University Research Council members within the next week.

4. Summer 1996 Research Round Table (Ave Tombes)

Vice-President Tombes presented a proposal to organize three “Round Table” meetings to discuss the future of research and development at NMSU. The meetings be held in the Conference Room of Hadley Hall from 12:00 Noon - 2:00pm (lunch will be provided) with the dates of June 10th, June 17th, and June 24th. Recommended attendees are: one representative from each College, one Regent, one student, one from Physical Science Laboratories, the Graduate Dean, Vice-President Tombes, and President Orenduff.

5. Year end evaluation and suggestions for next year’s agenda.

Evaluation: The Committee’s only suggestion was to schedule bi-monthly meetings instead of monthly.

Suggestions for next year’s agenda: 1) Keep Unproductive & Duplicative Efforts subcommittee; and, 2) create a Cost Accounting Standards subcommittee.
