VA Liaison Welcome Letter and
Certification Information

As your VA Liaison Representative, I want to extend a warm welcome to New Mexico State University Veterans Programs Office.  Our function is to serve as the liaison between the NMSU student and the Veterans Administration in Muskogee, Oklahoma.  As liaison, our duties include:

  • Accepting and submitting new applications for approval of benefits
  • Certifying that students are taking the required classes which apply to their degree plan
  • Working with the student to ensure that overpayments are not created
  • Reporting adjustments of students' credit hour

You have been referred to our office to either begin or continue utilizing your VA benefits. Listed below are the forms that are required of you before we can process your certification(s).

  • Verification of Enrollment Form
  • Failing Grades Form
  • Veteran's Responsibilities Form
  • Obtain a signed and dated degree check from your college (any prior credits must be evaluated and indicated on your degree plan)
  • Change of Program/Place of Training Form (only required if you have used your VA benefits previously)

The above-mentioned forms can be obtained in our office or by clicking here. If you would like to subscribe to our email list, please include your email on the verification form. Notification of VA updated information and information regarding NMSU deadlines are sent to those students that elect this option. The degree plan/check must be obtained from your advisor within your college. Please note that some colleges require that you schedule an appointment to meet with your advisor, which could mean a delay in receiving this document.

Upon completion and receipt of these forms, we will ensure that the classes you have registered for apply towards your degree program. If all classes are applicable, a 1999 (electronic or hard copy certification) will be processed and forwarded to the Regional Office.

You may take courses that apply to your degree at more than one school. The school that grants the degree is the "parent" school. All other schools are "secondary" schools. Certification procedures for NMSU students taking courses at another institution must complete the above requirements as well as having your admission status changed to main campus. (It is your responsibility to provide our office with a transcript reflecting credit for those courses that were certified. Future certifications will not be processed until we receive the transcript). For further information regarding "Parent/Secondary" enrollment, please contact me directly.

Remember that  you are responsible for contacting us and submitting all required information for EACH semester that you wish to utilize your VA benefits.

Please feel free to visit our office in Jacobs Hall, Room 214, call us at (505) 646-4524, or email us at va@nmsu.edu. My staff and I look forward to the opportunity to serve your VA needs.
