Teaching Interests: women, gender, and sexuality in the Arab/Muslim world and Israel, in Judaism and Islam, and in transnational contexts; the Palestine/Israel conflict; LGBTQ and sexuality studies; feminist, anthropological, and postcolonial approaches to war/conflict/peace, nationalism, and transnationalism; border issues; feminist and queer theoretical approaches to the study of language, interaction, and power; sociolinguistics and film studies of the Arab/Muslim world and Israel; feminist, queer and anthropological theories and research methods.

Research Interests: Most of my research interests are in the context of Palestine/Israel and the United States, including feminism and feminist peace activism; nationalism, racism, and national belonging; border crossings and transnationalism; language ideologies and practices; constructions of identities; media representations; bi/multilingualism, language shift, and language revitalization; structural aspects of Hebrew, Arabic, English, and Native American languages

Upcoming Presentations for 2009-2010

  • "An Ethnolinguistic Critique of Israel by Jewish and Palestinian Feminist Peace Activists"  to be presented in a panel  co-organized with Char Ullman, called "Linguistic Citizenship: Ideologies of Language Practice and the End/s of the Nation" at the American Anthropological Association annual meetings in Philadelphia, PA, Dec. 2-6, 2009
