Update 3/13/2020 - 2:46:40 PM

Dear NMSU Campus Resident,

Chancellor Arvizu announced, via email earlier today, that NMSU’s Spring Break for students will begin early, on March 16 (no classes). Classes and coursework will resume on March 30.

This email is intended to provide a summary of NMSU’s efforts to address the COVID-19 situation and to make sure you know NMSU is committed to keeping our campus community healthy and safe. If you have questions that are not answered below – please see the NMSU’s website dedicated to maintaining up-to-date information about the COVID-19  situation.

  • Student Housing and Dining Services remain OPEN and will continue to operate normally. If you are staying on campus during Spring Break please see information below.
  • Students who wish to remain in their on-campus rooms and/or apartments through Spring Break may do that and are not expected to leave campus.
  • We have increased cleaning of high-touch surfaces: specifically handrails, elevator buttons, and door handles are being disinfected regularly.
  • Hand sanitizer is being provided in public spaces.
  • Students have been notified and are regularly reminded about special hygiene and virus prevention strategies in their residence halls/apartments that will prevent the spread of viruses (including the flu). Specific strategies can be found at this CDC link.
  • Specific plans have been created related to students who need to be isolated and may require meal delivery from others. Housing and Residential Life will be handling each case uniquely.
  • If you are leaving campus housing for Spring Break:
    • Lock your doors and windows and take your key with you.
    • Take valuables and items you may need (medications, important paperwork, computer, etc.) with you.
    • Now is a great time to tidy up your room, wash your bedding, and disinfect the surfaces in your space so you come back to a clean and healthy environment.
  • If you are staying on campus during Spring Break:
    • Hours and information about campus dining locations is available here.
    • The service desks in Garcia Hall, Chamisa Village, and South Campus will remain open during Spring Break. We will maintain regular desk hours through March 20. Starting March 21, we will have reduced hours through March 29. Hours will be posted at each location and may be subject to change.
