The Experience

Why choose a M.A. in Experimental Psychology at NMSU?

Backed by a legacy of mentorship and a curriculum rooted in experimentation and methodology, you'll emerge ready to influence how individuals think, behave, and interact — with confidence and clarity. Students in our graduate program are focused on one of two major areas of study: cognitive or social psychology.  

Graduate students in the cognitive area typically work on basic or applied research related to cognitive abilities, neural processes, visual or auditory perception, learning, or memory.  Graduate students in the social area typically work on research related to human-robot interaction, emotion, gender, teaching, sexuality, or social cognition.

We’re removing barriers to graduate education, which is why we don’t require the GRE.

The M.A. in Experimental Psychology program provides students with sufficient electives to emphasize a particular sub-area of experimental psychology. The program is designed to provide graduates with the tools and knowledge necessary for further training at the doctoral level or for employment in industry or government.  Other requirements include, taking a minimum of 36 credit hours total; 15 of these credit hours must be in Psychology; and at least 15 of these credit hours must be in courses numbered 500 or above.
