We’re removing barriers to graduate education, which is why we don’t require the GRE.

A Ph.D. in Math at NMSU requires a minimum of 30 graduate course credits beyond the master's degree and a minimum of 18 dissertation credits. In addition, students must pass a qualifying examination, a basic comprehensive written examination, an advanced comprehensive examination with written and oral components, and a final oral doctoral thesis examination.

GPA: A minimum GPA of 3.25 is required for admission.

Application: The application includes a one-page persona statement, transcripts and three letters of recommendation.

Residency Requirement: Complete at least 50% of coursework at NMSU.
